Chipmaker Nvidia will invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI under a newly announced strategic partnership aimed at advancing the next generation of artificial intelligence.
The agreement will support the training and deployment of OpenAI’s future models, with the first phase scheduled to launch in the second half of 2026 on Nvidia’s Vera Rubin platform.
“Nvidia and OpenAI have challenged and inspired each other for a decade, from the first DGX supercomputer to the breakthrough of ChatGPT,” said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of Nvidia. “This investment and infrastructure collaboration marks the next major leap — deploying 10 gigawatts of compute power to drive the next era of intelligence.”
Sam Altman, OpenAI’s cofounder and CEO, stressed the importance of compute resources in shaping the future economy:
“Compute infrastructure will underpin tomorrow’s economy. Our work with Nvidia will help us deliver new AI breakthroughs and empower people and businesses worldwide.”
Greg Brockman, OpenAI’s president and cofounder, noted the partnership deepens years of collaboration:
“We’ve been working with Nvidia since OpenAI’s early days. Together, we’re deploying 10 gigawatts of compute to expand the frontier of intelligence and scale the benefits of this technology for everyone.”
As part of the deal, Nvidia will become OpenAI’s preferred strategic partner for compute and networking in its AI factory expansion. Both companies will align their hardware and software roadmaps to co-optimize performance and scalability.
This partnership builds on OpenAI’s collaborations with Microsoft, Oracle, SoftBank, and Stargate, all working toward creating the world’s most advanced AI infrastructure.
With more than 700 million weekly active users, OpenAI said the expanded partnership with Nvidia will accelerate its mission to develop artificial general intelligence (AGI) that benefits humanity. The companies expect to finalize details of the agreement in the coming weeks.
