Mercedes-Benz GLC EV Sets New Benchmark with 713km Range and 39-Inch Hyperscreen
Mercedes-Benz has pulled the wraps off its latest all-electric SUV, the GLC EV, at the Munich Motor Show 2025—ushering in a bold new chapter for the brand’s luxury EV lineup. Positioned as the spiritual successor to the EQE SUV (slated to retire in 2026), the GLC EV blends futuristic design, class-leading range, and cutting-edge digital experiences to rival contenders like the BMW iX3.
Built on the Next-Gen MB.EA Platform
The GLC EV is the first model to ride on Mercedes’ new MB.EA electric-first platform, designed around 800V architecture. At launch, two powertrains will be offered:
-
GLC 300+ (RWD) – Single motor, 374 bhp
-
GLC 400 4MATIC (AWD) – Dual motors, 489 bhp
Both versions use a 94kWh NMC battery pack supporting ultra-fast charging up to 330kW DC, with 10–80% charging achieved in just 24 minutes. Impressively, a 10-minute top-up can add up to 303km of range. On the WLTP cycle, the flagship GLC 400 4MATIC delivers 713km of range, the longest yet for a Mercedes EV.
Design: Illuminated Luxury Meets Aerodynamic Precision
From the outside, the GLC EV exudes presence with its illuminated grille, featuring 942 backlit dots framing the iconic three-pointed star. The sleek silhouette achieves a drag coefficient of just 0.26, balancing elegance with efficiency. Standard 20-inch alloys, optional 21-inch wheels, and signature star-shaped LED lighting elements round out the bold look.
Interior: A 39.1-Inch Digital Experience
Step inside, and the spotlight falls on the record-breaking 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen—a seamless glass panel that integrates driver display, infotainment, and passenger screen. Running on the new MB.OS operating system, the interface offers AI-powered features, cloud connectivity, and more than 40 built-in apps, including video streaming and platforms like Disney+.
Balancing high-tech with usability, Mercedes has reintroduced physical rocker and roller controls for functions like cruise control and audio. Sustainability also takes center stage with the optional Vegan Package, certified by The Vegan Society—making the GLC EV the first fully vegan-certified interior in the industry.
Space, Comfort, and Driving Dynamics
With its 84mm longer wheelbase compared to the combustion GLC, the EV variant promises generous cabin space—47mm more rear legroom and 17mm extra headroom. Cargo capacity is equally versatile, offering 570 liters in the boot, expandable to 1,740 liters, plus a 128-liter frunk.
Underneath, S-Class-derived air suspension and rear-axle steering (up to 4.5 degrees) ensure both comfort and agility. A new One-Box braking system allows seamless energy recuperation up to 300kW, while a multi-source heat pump optimizes cold-weather efficiency.
Intelligent Assistance and Charging Innovations
The debut of MB.DRIVE brings advanced driver assistance powered by 10 cameras, 5 radar units, and 12 ultrasonic sensors, working in sync with MB.OS. Features include cooperative steering, braking, and acceleration, with the ability to add new capabilities via over-the-air updates.
Charging is equally innovative. With MB.CHARGE Public, customers can reserve charging stations in advance—an industry first. Plus, the SUV supports bidirectional charging, enabling vehicle-to-home (V2H) and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) applications.
Launch Timeline and Market Outlook
The GLC EV will enter global markets in 2026, beginning with the GLC 400 4MATIC. Four additional variants are planned, giving Mercedes a wide-reaching portfolio in the premium mid-size electric SUV segment.
With its 713km range, futuristic design, class-leading digital innovations, and comfort-oriented engineering, the GLC EV aims to redefine expectations in the electric luxury SUV space.
The Mercedes-Benz GLC EV isn’t just another electric SUV—it’s a showcase of how far luxury EVs can push technology, comfort, and sustainability, all in one package.
